Manufacturing & Prototyping Solutions
From our Auburn Hills, Michigan headquarters, we support mechanical prototype development for parts, mechanisms and assemblies. We define the design question, CAD requirements, materials and intended checks, then coordinate prototype work through our engineering team, in-house prototype resources and manufacturing partners.
ADAPT runs an in-house prototype shop and coordinates short production runs through a vetted supply chain. Scope covers functional prototypes, CNC-machined and additive parts, fixture build, short-run fabrication, and first-article build for production validation. For higher-volume production, ADAPT manages the supply chain through established manufacturing partners.
PROTOTYPE OUTPUTS
An early concept prototype supports feasibility checks; a functional prototype supports agreed checks of fit, motion or performance. The engineering scope may include CAD models, drawings, physical parts or assemblies, and defined inspection or test work. A pilot or low-volume build is a separate scope with its own material, process, quantity and acceptance requirements.
Why ADAPT Technology?
Prototype work is most useful when the build and the engineering definition stay connected. We can develop or revise CAD, coordinate prototype parts and assemblies, and use agreed inspection or test findings to inform the next design revision. The scope should identify the required model or drawing files, physical deliverables and review criteria. Related mechanical design work is described in Design Services.
For a fishing landing-net program, we provided design, engineering and prototype support. Deliverables included parametric component models and functional prototypes covering a carbon-fiber telescoping handle, a folding hexagonal hoop and a hoop-locking mechanism. This historical scope is not a standard prototype package or delivery-time commitment.
Engineering and Build Coordination: Mechanical design, prototype development, inspection planning and manufacturing-partner coordination within the agreed project scope.
Global & USA Manufacturing: Advanced in-house prototyping capabilities with local fabrication in the USA and access to a trusted global supply chain.
Industry Expertise: Serving aerospace, automotive, medical, defense, heavy equipment, tooling, and more, with tailored solutions to meet your unique needs.
Integrated Testing, Simulation, & Quality Control
Simulation, inspection and physical testing address different engineering questions. For each prototype program, the scope should identify the required checks, acceptance criteria and responsible parties. Prototype work can support product development and validation, but does not by itself establish certification or regulatory approval.
Simulation & Engineering Analysis (CAE/FEA/CFD)
ADAPT leverages advanced simulation tools to optimize designs, reduce costs, and improve performance before physical production begins. These capabilities include:
Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Structural Analysis: Assessing load-bearing capacity, stress, and strain distribution in parts and assemblies.
- Fatigue Analysis: Evaluating the lifespan of materials and components under cyclic loads.
- Thermal Analysis: Simulating heat transfer and thermal performance for critical applications.
- Seismic Analysis: Ensuring product reliability under earthquake or vibration conditions.
- Buckling Analysis: Identifying failure points in structural designs under compressive loads.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Flow Analysis: Simulating fluid dynamics to improve aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, and internal flow systems.
- Hydrostatic Pressure Testing: Ensuring durability in fluid-immersed environments.
Dynamic Simulations
- Multi-Body Dynamics: Simulating the motion of interconnected mechanical components.
- Kinematics Simulations: Analyzing mechanisms like gears, hinges, and linkages.
Optimization & Sensitivity Studies
- Topology Optimization: Designing lightweight and efficient components.
- Design Sensitivity Analysis: Identifying critical design parameters to enhance product performance.
Injection Molding & Manufacturing Analysis
- Flow & Pack/Filling Analysis: Optimizing mold designs for injection-molded components.
- Warpage Analysis: Preventing deformation in molded parts.
- Material Utilization & Blank Sizing: Maximizing material efficiency in sheet metal and casting processes.
In-House Testing & Validation
Our in-house capabilities are designed to provide precise, real-time feedback throughout the prototyping and manufacturing process:
- Dimensional Inspections: Using CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines) for precise measurements of complex geometries.
- Thermal Stress Testing: Validation of material performance under extreme temperature conditions.
- Salt Spray Testing: Corrosion resistance testing for metals and coatings.
- Chemical & Mechanical Testing: Material property analysis to ensure structural integrity and compliance with specifications.
- Lead & Phthalate Testing: For consumer and medical product safety.
Global Testing & Compliance
Testing and compliance support must be scoped to the product, intended market and applicable requirements, with the responsible test facilities and approval bodies identified before work begins:
- Regulatory Support: Compliance with FDA, CPSIA, CARB, UL, CSA, and other standards.
- Traceability: Advanced date coding and inventory management systems to ensure transparency.
- Audit & Compliance Testing: Regular facility audits and compliance checks for seamless integration with your supply chain.
Advanced Quality Control Techniques
Our in-house and global quality control measures are bolstered by advanced techniques to deliver exceptional results:
- Inline Quality Monitoring: Real-time data collection during production to ensure consistency.
- Surface Finishes Testing: Validation of coatings like e-coat, powder coat, galvanizing, and electroplating for durability.
- Material Testing: Ensuring chemical composition, hardness, and mechanical properties align with ASTM and ISO standards.
